The Duck & The devil

There was a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm. He was given a slingshot to play with out in the woods. He practiced in the woods but could never hit a target. He started to get discouraged and headed back to the house for dinner.

As he was walking back he saw Granny’s pet duck. Just for the heck of it he let the slingshot go and hit the duck in the head and killed it. He was shocked and sorrowful.

In a panic, he hid the dead duck in a wood pile but he noticed his sister was watching. She had seen it all but she said nothing.

After lunch the next day,  Granny said, “Sis, let’s wash the dishes.” But Sis replied, “Granny, John said he wanted to help in the kitchen.” Then she whispered in his ear, “remember the duck?”

So John did the dishes.

Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing and Granny said, “Sorry but i need Sis to help make supper.” Sis just smiled and said, “Well that’s all right because John told me he wanted to help.” She whispered again, “remember the duck?” So she went fishing and John stayed to help.

After several days of John doing his chores and his sisters he finally couldn’t stand it any more. He went to Granny and confessed that he had killed the duck. Granny knelt down, gave him a hug and said, “Honey, i know what happened. I was standing at the window and i saw the whole thing. But because i love you, i forgave you. I was just wondering how long you were going to let your sister make a slave of you.”

Thought for the day:

Whatever is in your past and whatever you have done…God was standing at the window and He saw the whole thing. He has seen your whole life and He wants you to know that He loves you. He’s wondering how long you will let the devil make a slave out of you.

It is by God’s grace and mercy that we are saved.

Have a blessed week!
